Kenneth Robey Pittman, age 73, of Randleman, died Monday, July 13, 2020 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alec and Swanee Golden Pittman and sister Judy Pittman Wooten of State Road, NC. He was born and raised in Surry County. He was a graduate of Surry Central High School and later served in the US Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy he was employed with Duke Power in Greensboro where he formed lasting friendships over his 40 year career.
Ken was a member of the Level Cross Civitan Club where he served as treasurer for many years. During the 1980’s you could certainly find him at the Level Cross Ballfield. He was constant figure there and enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball teams. After retirement, he found enjoyment meeting his friends regularly at Betty’s Kitchen for breakfast and banter. Ken attended Forest Park Baptist Church.
Ken enjoyed giving people nicknames. He often referred to friends and family with the unique names he created, always with love. One of his favorite pastimes was being “Poppy” to McKenna and Miles and he treasured the time he spent with them. He was collector of many things with some of his most prized possessions being hand drawn pictures from his two grandchildren.
Ken is survived by his wife of 48 years, Norma McCaskill Pittman; his three children: Jason (Ioana) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., Jill Jackson and Julie Moore (Doug) of Randleman; grandchildren: McKenna Moore and Miles Moore; beloved aunt, Helen Garris, aunt Stella Mae Golden and many nieces and nephews.
Ken will lie in state Friday, July 17, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 S. Main St., Randleman, NC. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00 am at Randolph Memorial Park, 4538 US Hwy. 220 Bus. North, Asheboro, NC with Rev. Joel McDuffie officiating.
