Mary "Helen" Cross Garner, age 86, of Asheboro passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.
Mrs. Garner was born October 22, 1933 the daughter of Herbert and Mabel Johnson Cross.Mrs. Garner was raised in Cedar Falls and graduated from Grays Chapel High School in 1951. She attended Forest Park Baptist Church. Helen was formerly employed with Commonwealth Hosiery and retired from Kyser-Roth Industries. She enjoyed going fishing in Florida every Thanksgiving and always extending a helping hand to those in need. She was a good cook, especially her chocolate pies she shared with her family and friends. Helen was a wonderful loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband: John David "J. D." Garner and her daughter: Vicki Garner Poindexter.
She is survived by her son-in-law: William "Billy" Poindexter of Franklinville; grandson: William David Poindexter and his fiancée, Chelsea Butcher both of Durham; one sister: Shirley Pugh and her husband, Floyd Pugh of Staley; brother: Herbert Cross, Jr and his wife, Peggy Cross of Randleman and many friends.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the family will have a private graveside service at Whites Memorial Baptist Church, 2930 Whites Memorial Rd., Franklinville with Rev Joel McDuffie officiating.
A Celebration of Life service will be held later this year to honor Helen's life.
