James Lewis "Jim" Ward, age 88, of Asheboro passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro. Mr. Ward was born in Thomasville, NC on October 20, 1931, and lived in Sophia, NC for over 70 years. He attended High Point and Trinity Schools. Jim served six years in the U.S. Army and was stationed out of Boston, MA at a Nike Base. He was the owner and operator of Rocket Motors, Inc. in High Point for 18 years and operated Party Beverage in Randleman for 14 years, retiring in 1994. He was a founding member of Lake Park Baptist Church in Hillsville, NC. Jim and his wife moved to Asheboro in 2014 and resided at Cross Road Retirement Community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathleen Pugh and John Lewis Ward and brother, Harry Pugh Ward and wife Colleen. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hilda Pickrel Ward; son, Dale L. Ward and wife Angie of Denton; grandsons, Chase L. Ward and wife Canaan of Myrtle Beach, SC and Taylor M. Ward and wife Rachel of High Point; great grandson, Aidan S. Ward of Myrtle Beach, SC; and great granddaughter, Isla Anne Ward of High Point. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home for the loving care and compassion given to Jim. A private graveside service will be held.
