Basil Lee Meredith, age 94, of Sophia passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point, NC.

Basil was born to the late Ernest M. and Ida Way Meredith. He was a wonderful father and helped raise six children. By example, he taught them the meaning of hard work and faith in Jesus Christ.

As a young man, Basil worked for Tomlinson Furniture, then served in the U.S. Army Air Force at the latter part of WWII as a radar technician instructor. Following his military service, he worked for Burlington Industries in Asheboro, NC for many years until he became the owner of Meredith Grocery in Trinity, NC, from which he retired. Basil enjoyed playing the guitar, working in the garden, and running and training Field Trial Champion Beagle dogs. He was a former member of the Midstate Beagle Club.

In addition to his parents, Basil is preceded in death by his wives: Juanita K. Meredith, Ruth Meredith, and Barbara Meredith; son: Larry Meredith, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include his daughters: Iris Brown (Garland), Rita Fleming; daughter-in-law: Pat Meredith; sons: Stephen Meredith (Judy); Terry Fleming (Kim); Randy Meredith (Janis); seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one brother: Clyde Meredith.

The Graveside Service will be Monday, February 25, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point with Rev. Larry Stines officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Guard.
