RANDLEMAN - Charlie "Eugene" Secrest, age 75, of Randleman died Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Northern Hospital, Mt. Airy.
Mr. Secrest was born October 15, 1943 in Surry County, the son of Bernice Secrest. Eugene was full of life and spent 47 years as a truck driver where he was commonly known as "The Leaping Deere". He loved NASCAR, camping, and most importantly time with his family. Eugene was a long-standing board member of the Level Cross Fire Department and member at New Salem Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Wilma Whittington Secrest; and great grandchild, Randall Lee Cox, Jr.
He is survived by his children: Debbie Thomas and husband Mark of Mt. Airy, Janet Atkins and husband Johnny of Ararat, Dwayne And Robin Secrest of Randleman, Ricky Cockman and wife Brenda of Ramseur, Jeff Cockman and wife Sherry of Randleman, Tina Shipes of Randleman, and Karen Andolina and husband Sal of Durham; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; special cousin, Hugh Secrest and wife Faye of Dobson; and his faithful canine companion, Rusty.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 6 - 8 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman. The funeral will be on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 2:00 pm at New Salem Baptist Church, Old Greensboro Rd., Randleman with Rev. Phillip Talton officiating. Burial will follow the service in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Eugene's honor to the Level Cross Fire Department, 125 Branson Mill Rd., Randleman, NC 27317.
